frontpage xp publish problem

howdy
I have used frontpage since fp 98 and recently started using xp version.
I have a site that is frontended with a "splash" welcome page with links to two different sites.

I imported my existing site into fp 2002 made some changes to the page background
using a picture , saved the changes then published - thats where the fun(nightmare began) When I saved the web, frontpage automatically put it in C\ my documents\ etc

and coded all my hyperlinks to look in this folder on my computer for the files

even when I published it to my site , the links all pointed to files on my computer

any suggestions? My site needs a major re work to look more professional and I have the templates to make most of the changes but now I am almost afraid to attempt it

the last time I published my site was down for 24 hours.

thanks in advance for the advice

Hi bamabass and welcome to the forum.
May you always be in lunker heaven.

Here is where my guess is that your problem lies.
You don't use the import function to move the site around. You only use "publish"
So...if your site is still alright on your host server then log on to the server (start FP, ask it to open a web, type in the URL--http: // yoursite.com--give it your user name and password. When the site opens, simply ask FP to "publish" the site. It will ask you to browse to a spot on your hard drive. That's it.
You can "publish" from a hard dirve to the server, the server to a hard drive. A hard drive to another hard drive. the hard drive to a CD burner, etc. etc.
If you just copy and paste the site or try to import the site it won't work properly.

Thanks for the info
I will give it a try

My problem wasn't importing the site it was publishing the site to begin with.

I used the import function from the "file" menu

If I could afford it I would just use your service I think I visited your site in the past and remember I was impressed with your work.

Thanks again

Hi
I hope the tide rolls for sure.

I am in Huntsville and fish mostly Guntersville and Wheeler .
I got my Ranger from Buck Island Marine

Put my problems with front page xp on the back burner-
learning to use dreamweaver mx and php because my server has Mysql set up on it.

I mostly sell cars on the internet and am looking to design and build a web site that will integrated an inventory database without incurring a several hundred dollar per month
fee that we currently have.

right now my sites are in pathetic shape - hence the coming re work

the real sites I use are at www.withyoudowntheroad.com

thanks

Jasper
