creating user login

Hello Experts, I am in need of assistance.

I am going to start building a new web site for a club I belong to. What I would like to do is have the index page be open to the public (I got that far;) and then have a login page where members of the club would be able to login to get more information. On the login, I think this is the tricky part? I need to have some of the pages be open to everybody with a valid login. But also I need to have information specific to that login only be seen by that login, such as dues and payments. Does this make sense?

I guess the first is how do I create the two seperate sides of the site, the public and the private? And then how do I segregate some of the information on the private side of the site?

If you don't have extensive knowledge in implementing such functions, you may want to look into using a Content Management Systems (CMS) like Joomla, Drupal, etc. Most CMS have register/login already set up. In addition, some CMS have add-ons that you may be looking for.

The two CMS's I mentioned are open source and so it's no cost to you but you do need to learn how it all works. However, not all add-ons are free.

If you are designing your website in FrontPage 2003 and you are hosting on a server that is running FrontPage extensions ... you can do what you desire in your question. Although I have numerous messages from my host saying they will not support FP extensions in the future since Microsoft is not supporting them anymore.

I currently have a FP website that the index page is open to general public browsing and then I have 3 Teir levels of security (3 SUBWebs within FP 2003).
With different user log-ins assigned to different sub-webs (directories)

Here is a easy to understand tutorial to help guide you through the process: front page-subwebs

Once you get the Sub Webs (Directories) set up in FP 2003, they are easy to administrate.
