Publish from host server.

Just to set scene - old guy, retired, way out of touch. Friend wants me to update website for him. I have FrontPage but not his web site. I believe that I can publish from his server to my hard drive but can't remember exactly how. This is what I have been trying:
Start FP, ask it to open web. Problem is, where do I enter the website URL? It seems to want a location on my PC.

Any help in words of one syllable would be appreciated.

You're on the right track. From the open site dialog, enter the URL of the site in the "site name" box at the bottom, i.e. http://yourdomain.com.

Note that when the site is opened on the server it is the "Local" site.

Then select the File menu and choose Publish Site. For the remote site choose the "File System" option and browse to a new, empty folder on your computer. When asked, answer Yes to create a web site at that location.

When finished, close the site on the server and open the site from your computer to work on it. Now the site on your computer is the "Local" site.

Thanks Rick. Still no go.

Using FP 2000 v.4.02
I open FP. Click File,Open Web. This produces 'Open Web' window. Box at top says 'Look in', box at bottom says 'Folder Name'

Entering 'http//:www. etc in bottom box produces error 'file name, location or format not valid.Type in name of file in correct format, such as C:\location\file name.

Am I missing something obvious?

The procedure must have been different in FP 2000. FP 2000 was quite a bit different, so I can't help but maybe someone else can.

Hi,
You need to make sure you "look in" web folders .... I did a google and found these image instructions, they should help you greatly.
