Please critique my first attempt

Hello
I wrote a site for friends and recently revised it, using FP03. I am not making much progress though. In particular, on the feedback page, I cannot find out how to make a completed form go to my friends' email address (or my own). Advice on this, and general comments most appreciated!!

i'll try not to be too critical as it's your first site :)

the title graphic looks rough and it looks over-compressed (you can see a smudgy background colour to it) - is it word art? or did you create it in a graphics program?
id you know what font it is i could recreate a better version for you...

the naviagtion is a bit square and looks like an old FP theme??

there's too much space between navigation and the heading

you need a lot more consistency with your typography:
use proper headings (h1, h2 etc.) and keep sizes consistent throughout.
using lots of different colours makes it look messy and amateurish.

also using a web friendly font (i.e. one that's easier to read on the web) like verdana looks nicer than Times New Roman
i would think about combining the turkey header (looks nice BUT too blurry and low quality) with your own header

don't use a house icon for the feedback page: it will be seen as a link to the homepage

you need alt attributes on your images
e.g.
<img border="0" src="_borders/title.jpg" width="487" height="64" alt="altinkum bays easyways">

you have a lot of font tags which are best avoided as soon as you have the time and willingness to learn css and html
(try these as well as the tutorials on this forum
http://www.w3schools.com/
http://htmldog.com/
http://www.opera.com/wsc/)

on some pages the nav suddenly changes to the left side - decide on one or the other (personally i prefer the left)

you have some bright clipart there but it clashes a little with the style of the theme/template (which looks quite dated, though functional)

how about some local photos to go with the parts about the pool and gardens etc?

i don't like the vignettes of the photos - for me they lok like frontpage sites from a few years back and unless done well can with restrain they can look too sentimental, particularly for this kind of site.

EDIT: something like this as a header and general colour scheme (you could use the red from the bottom of the header as a link colour) http://pp.kpnet.fi/prescott/stuff/T-Welcomenew.jpg

Wow Dave!
Thanks very much- this gives me a lot to think about, a lot to learn. My title graphic was indeed wordart, I like yours better. (What did you use?) The "WELCOME TO TURKEY" strip is lifted from a Turkish gov't source- politically advisable to use it but not to combine it. Yes, the theme is a slightly modified FP stock theme. Can't change colours now as client is using them on literature & ads, etc. House icon is clients so can't avoid using it. All your other comments will be actioned, soon.
Any ideas for making the feedback form work?
Thanks again
Deri

Deri
i used adobe fireworks to make mine ;)

i would still use the house icon as a link to Home, but not for feedback, or add the words 'feedback form' underneath it.

i'm not familiar with FP forms - i'll leave that in the hands of the far more capable people here on the forum :)
