Migrating website from one computer ...

I tried to move my website from one computer to another by copying the web folder to a cd and then opening it on another computer. It appears that the file copies as "read only" and won't allow me to publish from the new computer. It starts to publish and then simply closes Frontpage.

Any thoughts

Copy/Paste won't work. You need to use the "Publish" utility to move the website from the first computer to the cd and then again from the cd to the new computer.

I appreciate your quick response. I assume you mean the "Publish utility" in Frontpage. When I tried to publish to the cd drive I got an error message that said "incorrect function" and then "don't have access to D: drive.

Did I misunderstand?

Publish to a new, empty folder on your computer, then drag the folder onto the CD drive for burning. Dragging the folder assures that you get all of the files including the hidden files in the folder.

Rick, et al:

Thanks for everyone's suggestions. I copied the site to a disk as you described and when I tried to copy it to my new computer i got the message "server extensions unable to access (my site) vti_pvt\service.lck" I saw this referred to somewhere else as something that was common but I have no idea what it means or how to fix it.

I also was able to get right on the server and edit the site but when I tried to publish it to my hard drive FP just completely shut down. I have another site on this computer that I publish with FP so my version of it is not the problem from what I can tell.

Any idea's? And thanks again

Jeff
