Import FTP frontpage 2000

There is an existing web page that needs to be edited in frontpage 2000. How do I import it via ftp?

Is frontpage 2003 easier to use and compatible with editing a frontpage 2k created site?

I'm afraid that if I follow the information here[1] that I might delete the whole website.

If the site has no extensions then you can use any ftp program (wsftp, ftp commander) to connect to the remote host and move the files to your hard drive.
If the web site is using FP extensions then you do NOT want to use the import function in FrontPage but instead you want to "Publish" the web site to your hard drive. You can "Publish" from your hard drive to the remote server; the remote server to your hard drive; a hard drive to a cd, and so on.
Simply start Front Page; give it the long URL of the web site on the remote host to open (http:// www. yoursite .com); give Front Pge the username and password (it will ask) and you are now "live" on the remote server. Notice that FrontPage calls this the "local" since that is the web site that is open. Now simply tell FrontPage to "Publish" the site (yes, all of it..FP will ask) and browse to the location on your hard drive where you want the site to go. That's all there is to it.

Front Page 2003 is fine to use as an editor of web sites created with earlier versions of FP. It is easy to use. It is also a discontinued product and we encourage everyone to upgrade to Expression web or DreamWeaver.

Thanks for the information.

Is those steps for getting the FTP structure (files and folders) into FP for the first time, or each time?

Just the first time....I'm assuming the "needs to be edited in frontpage 2000" means the website is using front page extensions? If not, I suggest using the newer Microsoft Expression or Dreamweaver as FrontPage is a discontinued product.
